The Premier customers played by the rules. The rules were changed after the fact by Leupold.
It's not like customers chose to have their scopes modified and
then expected Leupold to service any issues. Leupold expressly acknowledged that Premier modified scopes
would be covered by their warranty.
You could also buy a new Leupold scope directly from Premier with the modifications done to it, which is where my Leupold/Premier scopes came from. At one time, there was actually a printed statement to that fact from Leupold directly. In fact, I have it here in the original Leupold box and paperwork for a scope I purchased directly from Dick Thomas at Premier.
At the center of Leupold/Premier splitting the sheets was the reticle work Premier was doing for Leupold for their extremely lucrative military contracts at the time. With a management change at Leupold, that work all came in-house (with terrible results) and the rug got pulled from under Premier. Leupold owners with Premier modifications got left out in the cold as a direct result of Leupold's decision. Collateral damage.
Dick and his son went on to market their own line of very, very high end tactical scopes. In about 2013, the assets and intellectual property of Premier were acquired by the parent company of Tangent-Theta scopes.
Dick Thomas was a good man that helped me quite a bit. He fitted a set of two heavy leaf springs to the erector assy. on a M8 series 6X42 A.O. scope for my Hunter Benchrest gun that addressed all sorts of tracking issues that had me chasing my tail for a full season. That, along with a double glued .375 dot and a fine tuning the w/e adjustments from 'big' 1/4" adjustments to 'big' 1/8" adjustments finally gave me my confidence back in the gun and helped me win the IBS Hunter National Championship that season.
Good shootin'
