Removing stains on lathe bed

I recently used some Tru Tap HD cutting fluid as a coolant when chambering a barrel. This stuff is the consistency of thick honey and worked well. However, I did not get all the fluid cleaned from the lathe and it stained the top slide and ways. I want to remove the staining without using abrasives. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Strange as it may sound I use Sharpe shooter wipe-out foam to clean my top slide and ways. I use high sulfur cutting oils so it leaves stains. Be sure if you use it to reoil. It will remove all oil it comes in contact with.

as odd as it sounds. I knew a guy who just cold blued his ways so he would not have to worry about discoloration any longer.. it looked kind of cool.. A nice pretty lathe will get character over time.

I find that interesting as I found Wipe Out to not work well for me if the bore had any petroleum based lube or solvent residual left in the bore. I actually used brake cleaner to clean the bore before they came up with their Accelerator precleaner.

I will try it under my chuck where it is quite gummy at times.

Stain is the endstate for your lathe bed. Soon the entire lathe will be that color. Accept it.

Lol, I am not a total clean freak. But around here a stain is a terrible thing, like copper wash in a barrel, even if it shoots good and gets no worse.
My old iron came with free staining;-)
