Removing Moly and cleaning a muzzle break

I just bought a used rifle with 150 rounds down the tube, mostly moly bullets. I have never shot moly coated bullets and when I ran a wet patch down the bore it came out black. My question is should I try to remove the moly before shooting regular bullets or just start blasting away and use my normal cleaning at the end of the shoot? Also, this rifle has a muzzle break. Do these need periodic cleaning? It looks clean as a whistle right now. Thanks. Tom

The moly will change the point of impact. You have to shoot all moly coated or only naked, going back and forth will be frustrating. I shoot moly for long competitions where a fouled barrel would effect accuracy, but it takes 5 to 10 shots to condition the barrel. For fewer shots and tactical comps where the is no warm up, I shoot naked bullets. Any abrasive bore cleaner will remove the moly in your bore. The muzzle brake will collect crud and have to be cleaned.

Sorry about buttin in on your thread, but I have a few similar questions regarding Moly.

How important is it to remove the Moly from the bore when you are done shooting(do you clean it all out at the end of the day), and how is the issue of build up resolved(if you are not cleaning it all out)?

I have heard it cakes up, and also it will corrode the barrel. Thoughts?

Moly you can get out of the barrel with JB-Bore Paste.
Muzzle Breaks are best cleaned with supersonic cleaner (I hope thats the right word for it).

OK, the moly came right out with JB Paste and I took the muzzlebreak off and cleaned it with brake cleaner so it looks like I am good to go. Thanks to all as I had no idea how to deal with the black crud on the wet patch after a dry patch was clean as a whistle. Off to the range to see how she shoots tomorrow. ;D
