Removing bolt release all together

Is there any safety issues with completely removing the bolt release from a remington 700 other than dropping the bolt in the dirt

No safety issue other than maybe hitting yourself in the face with the bolt if you pull it briskly

No, just a convenience thing. I run triggers with no bolt release and have aftermarket bolt stops installed by my gunsmith to keep the bolt from accidentally falling out when I'm not paying attention. Cheap and easy.

Or dropping the darn thing on the ground when I forget !!!!

Been using that since 1975. Possibly easier to leave at home when you go to the range. At least that's the excuse I have used.

I drilled and taped mine for a 10-32 TPI set screw. You can move it farther to the rear and be able to eject longer rounds, ( you know how some guys cut a 1/4 inch off the stop to let the bolt go back farther ).
Just my .02

What happens if a round goes off after lifting the bolt handle?

Would a bolt release help?

I figure bad news or good news, depending if you are the widow or not.

I don't think a bolt release would help much.

Mine was done because it is a Shell Holder Bolt Face, so it is either in or out. Should a round 'cook off slowly' I can't imagine a bolt release doing much at all. Once those bolt lugs are clear my guess is you are (unfortunately) looking at a rather large caliber heavy projectile coming you way. Might be why you hear if having a misfire to wait a bit before opening the action.

I'd like to know of one DOCUMENTED case where this has actually happened. I say "documented" because hearsay rumors abound and are usually devoid of hard facts.
