Remove rust in barrel ?

A friend has rifle that got a little rusty and there is a couple of very small rust spots in the barrels bore that he and I have not been able to remove. We do not want to resort to a stainless steel bore brush nor try to shoot them.(Yikes about shoot it out.) I already did the Internet search found the use of white vinegar but not sure about that.
Any ideas out there ?

Google rust and BLUEng Remover. Several to choose from. Pay close attention to bluing remover as they mean it.
To be safe, scrub with WD40
To do this for your friend, what could possibly go wrong??

I did a test about 10 years ago with Breakfree CLP. It will completely loosen rust over time. It won't remove the stain or harm bluing. It takes a long time but it works. Let it soak for a couple weeks and it will come right out with a brush.

Might be helpful to know what you have tried so far, and how you are looking at it.

The corrosion deposits should be fairly easy to remove. You do realize the pits are there to stay.

Do not try using the SS brush.

A product called "Free All" is the best rust remover I have tried, and I have a bunch of them.

My brother owns a tire store, they have to remove rusted on bolts from front ends. Free all works better than any we have tried, seems to eat rust. Time soaking is your friend. Using a saturated wool mop, swab the barrel with the Free All, and let it sit for a month or two. We have wrapped rusty shotgun barrels in oily rags of Free All and a couple of months later, it was amazing how much rust came off.

When the rust is gone, you will have pitting. I have seen some hunting rifles with pitting that shot extremely well, until the crown gets pitted. Copper/carbon will collect in the pitting and more frequent cleanings will be in order.

Products I have personally tried:

Thanks for the info, but my friend was impatient went out to his back 20 acres and shot two rounds through it. Barrels bore is clean of rust now. Truthfully, it was four very small spots.

Thanks for the heads up on FreeAll. I am sure that will come in handy for me some day.

Don't know for sure if it's still available, but a product called RB-17 alway's worked well for me for rust and lead removal. It was a green colored gel.

Be sure to wipe that barrel down with a little oil to prevent future damage.

When it is my firearms, always, but thanks anyway.

Just like to add. That friend of mine is not negligent with his firearms. This was one of several guns his ex late wife basically stole from him along with many more during their separation. Some of his guns were almost completely destroyed with rust. One of his Sharps rifles which was a work of art is now not even worth 1/10 its original value as the result of her callousness. Another one of his Sharps rifle he and I have been trying to restore. Thanks to Ackleyman2 suggestion of FreeAll that just mite restore that one Sharps which is my personal favorite. 40-90 paper patch.
