Remington Sendero 300 win mag pressure signs

Remington Sendero 300 win mag pressure signs

My current load for this gun is
Nosler Accubond 180 GR.
H4350 69.3 GR .5 MOA

I wanted to try some H1000
loaded up 18 rounds
starting at 79.5 thru 80.5 in .2 grain graduations

79.5
3 round group
3157 FPS
3174 FPS
3180 FPS

79.7
3 round group
3221 FPS
xxxx FPS (chrono malfunction)
3248 FPS

79.9
3240 FPS (pressure signs (extractor mark))
3231 FPS (pressure signs (smiley face)

Im somewhat new to reloading and from reading load data I did not think this charge would lead to pressure signs

What are your thoughts ? Are my conclusions reasonable ?

You are way over the velocities on both Nosler and Hodgdon's sites so I'm not at all surprised you are seeing pressure signs. It means back off until you don't see pressure.

You can get those speeds without pressure from slower powders than H1000 or a double base.

With H1000 3100 -3130 is a more reasonable expectation.

There's a lot more that goes into it than just powder weight.

These are just a few...
Chamber dimensions
Case volume
Overall length
Neck tension
Freebore/length to lands
Primer type

Generally speaking, anything close to 5% book max charge weights can show pressure, as all these variables add up in different ways. Given you are within that window on the Nosler data, and over on the Hodgdon data linked above, you found the limit. Now back it down until you find a charge that shoots well.

Don’t know what manual you got your max loads from. This is only from the Berger manual. The manual doesn’t have 180 gr data. Looks to me like all your loads are at max powder charge. You should be a maybe 4 gr lower. 1 gr is about 2% .

Thanks Everyone ! First post here very welcoming crowd.

Think i will take 3Sigma's advice and start working down from 79.5 and see if I can find a good node.

It's a factory hunting rifle. You need to pick your loads by what shoots a nice group at reasonable safe speeds. You shouldn't be seeing how much powder you can get in a case without damaging something. A deer doesn't know if it was shot by a bullet going 3000 or 3100 FPS. You still want to work up a load starting from max working down. Your supposed to start low and work up.

With respect, you have that backwards...start low and work up slowly. Start high and you might end the search before it begins with a damaged gun. ALWAYS start low.

You never mentioned group size, just how much powder you can get in a case.
