The one model they released so far is like a work of art compared to years pastRuger has taken over the Marlin line from Remington and made a lot improvements in the Marlin line of rifles lately. They tossed some of the 100+ year old machinery and I believe they have former Marlin employees on the line now. Reviews have been been stellar since they took over.
My 1-38 microgroove JM Marlins shot cast just fine. For shorter bullets its just dandy.I had to use .431-.432 bullets and cast them hard though. I don't own them anymore as I just decided to go with 357 for my lever guns but I had no problems with them.I have not heard many complaints on the 357 Mag, BUT
My 1894 in 44 Mag shoots jacketed bullets fine (2"@100 yds) but will not shoot a cast bullet. Found out that it has a 1-38" twist barrel. all other Manufacturers use 1-20" twist barrels.
and a friend of mine has a 336 in 30/30 that would not shoot any load better than 8" at 100 yards. a gunsmith friend of ours slugged the barrel and found out it has a .311 bore..
My brother has the same one. I've shot it several times (did all the load work up for him) found it to be a nice rifle for a Remlin. Some were, many weren't.this is my Remlin 45-70. It has been superb for me
I’m waiting for them to come down in price, going for insane money right now. First chance I get I’ll buy one, I’m hearing good things. The one model they released so far is like a work of art compared to years past
357 is coming real soonI have 3 later Remlins two 45/70's a SBL and a SS guide gun and a 336 Spikehorn that JES rebored to 38-55 and no complaints the fit and finish are fine, and they function perfectly.
I may have just gotten lucky but I would not hesitate to pick up a later Remlin, I have looked at some of the first Remlins and they were pretty bad.
I can't wait for a ruger built 357.
