Remington LTR 308

Hello just got a Remington 700 LTR in 308, scoped It with a Leupold vx-6 4-24 52mm ,was thinking of using it as a duel purpose rifle . Using the Nosler or Sierra 110 gr Bullets on woodchucks and then the Nosler 168 gr BT bullets on deer .any thoughts? Thank you.

I really don't think you need to spend the money, time and effort working up two different loads for your rifle. The 110 gr. anything varmint doesn't have the range and energy in the instances when you might need to perform a longer shot on the chucks. The 165/168 will do both jobs well.

I've shot a bunch of the Nosler 165/168 Ballistic Tips on everything from chucks to mule deer. Chucks pop like a water balloon when you connect. They perform well in the .308 Win. on deer.

Enjoy!

:)

Looking good. My M70 in 308 just had it’s 42nd birthday shooting mostly 110 and 165.

I would suggest the happy medium of a 155 class bullet. The last 308 I had, I worked up some 155 sierra TMK under a max load of H4895 that would shoot very small and very fast. I shot quite a few sub inch groups at 300 meters with it and it was running at 3080fps with single digit ES according to the Magneto. The 155 TMKs have a better BC than the 168 Match King and can be launched at a much higher velocity. They were also very hard on milk jugs out to 500 meters so I think they would work reasonably well on varmints.

Try some H4895 and 165 SBT Sierra Game Kings. They are deadly on deer and very accurate. I have shot groundhogs with 110 Speer spire points and they blow up pretty good. That LTR is a good shooting rifle. Handles well in fields or the woods. Wish I hadn’t sold mine.

I had a Rem 20" LTR never shot 110 gr but stuck with 155 and 168 for everything ...kills varmints and accurate on paper through all 8000 rds I put through it....then rebarreled it 26" different stock , a longer match barrel, but 155 Lapua, Varget, Lapua brass, 210 m primer for everything no changes, through out the next 8000 rds. Good on squirrels out past 1000 yds where I luckily got a first rd hit....if you can see em... got 2 at 955 yds because they were watching me shoot the 1000 yd target. Rebarrel and longer still 27" same load throughout the next 8000 rds. When you shoot thousands of rds of the same accurate, low S/D load chronographed ...you know where the bullets going. There also was a reason for the longer barrel I believe to be positive...now days I've settled on 22" min and good all around length ...but killed one Squirrel at 27 yds and on at 1003 yards same day, earlier 2 at 955 yds a bunch around 500 yds all with the 26" 308 155 Scenar bullets...308 26" was my varmint rd of choice, the 17 222 223 220 swift all stayed at home. The 308 just allowed me to be more successful....so that's what I used.
