Remington let me down, again.

I sent my 700 police back after it shot dead center after moving windage ALL the way left. So I tried new rings, same thing. First rings, new base, same thing. New rings and second base, same thing. Had the scope checked out by sightron and they said it's all good. So Remington gave me the info to send back. I got it today, about 11 weeks later (not complaining), and first thing i see is same serial number. I immediately think well this won't go well. Mounted the scope, 2 piece burris with vortex rings. Pull the bolt and pick something to look at, a lamp about 100 yards out. Look at the scope (all zeroed) and its WAY right... just like it was before i sent it back. I'll shoot it for giggles sunday night, but I'm confident it's still wrong AND they didn't fire it with a scope on it. Notes say nothing other than it grouped. And they sent me a 3 shot group. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I took the scope off and put a scope I know is good on, lined up, same thing. Am I missing something here or is remington dropping the ball?

Remington is known for drilling/tapping the scope base holes off center. Best bet would be to have a smith mount the action up in a mill, find true center and Re-drill and re-tap the base screws to 8:40.

This is assuming that is the problem, Just a common one.

Dont feel bad, I purchased a 504t several years ago and brand new out of the box it would not chamber a live round. Called remington and they had me send it to one of there gunsmiths to have it re-chambered.
Several weeks later I got the gun back and spent a month, hundred bucks in ammo, and switching scopes three times before I convenced myself it was not going to shoot , meaning your beater in the closet would shoot better.
Called remington and sent it to them. Took about 8 months to get my money back.

But I still like a 700

Come tp the dark side. Buy a Savage.
I had a 12fv, that wouldn't feed and 2nd barrel had fire cracking after 220 rounds. the first barrel had a bad chamber and they replaced it. I sold that thinking I'd get better quality with remington :o >:(

I have one like yours. I did a cheap fix to it. I put a 1/16 lead sheet shim between my pic rail side and my ring base. It's not pretty but it works so far. I prolly have 1000 rounds on it and it's still solid. And yes, I can be real cheap. Good luck. Josh.

I'll call them and ask if they shot it with a scope before I take it to my smith. Am I seeing what I think?

I have a 40X that is just like that. How's that for their premium rifle.

So aside from getting a smith to correct it, I had a suggestion of windage adjustable bases. I do have the burris rings than I can put 10 moa in. Do 20 moa inserts for 30mm exist? I can only find them for 1" (last time I searched)

I bought a 700P a couple years ago. All I can say is that if I was being held hostage I hope the SWAT guy fixin' to take the dude out wasn't using my rifle! I messed with it for over a year then finally bought a Brux barrel, totally modified the stock then took it to Stick and and said call me when it's ready. Yesterday it shot a .7 5 shot group at 200 yards and I am just getting started with the load development. Thank you Stick.

My next factory rifle will be a Savage. I am done with Remington.

Remington sold me a lemon in the 700 police with a cut through the rifling , as I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't shoot I had to look at the bore and found this...Sent it back for a new barrel and it still doesn't shoot well. Remington won't get me again.

I know it's expensive but guys save your beer money and get a good action, and barrel fitted by a proper barrel medic and you will have something you can hunt with go to war with or just lay in your lap to pet while you watch a ball game. I know it's early but cheers! ;D

I bought a brand new Remington 1100 Sporting in .410. Beautiful wood, but the firing pin strike was way off center. Called them and sent it back with sample spent sheels. They returned it in under two weeks, which was the good news and said that they replaced the bolt. Took it to the range and shot it and low and behold, nothing had changed. Then I shot one day where all of us were shooting 1100s in 410 and all of them had off center strikes, so I just kept it. Never has failed to fire, but I doubt if they did anything but put in a new bolt and send it out without any checking on how that bolt worked.

Had a similar problem on a Remington action with scope screw holes off center a little, solved the problem with a set of Burris Zee rings and a mount with windage adjustable rear scope ring. These were the rings that turned in on the front and sliding rear windage with the side adjustment screws on the rear, no off set in the inserts ;)

Remington is not the only factory actions with crooked mounting holes,,,,I use "turn in" rings (Leupold/etc) and just zero the scope and set the coarse/initial windage with the rings/mounts ,,,,,plus have used Sig/Z rings with offset inserts with good results also,,,Roger

I did the same as bdale did...works fine. This is the cheapest fix and you can get back to hopefully enjoying the rifle.

I am not a smith, nor do I spend a great deal of time with other's guns. i have been a Rem guy since birth. However...

12 years ago I bought an 11-87 and wanted a standard "bird barrel" for it (it was a SWAT gun). Barrel delivered and put it on. Gun turned into a single shot....would not feed 2nd round. Took it to a Rem Rep I knew, and he went thru the gun itself. Tried it and it shot fine with his barrel. Mine...still a single shot. Further investigation revealed that the ring that goes over the gas system was attached (welded) "catty-wampuss" which is the technical term for off axis. I took it back to the wholesaler. They went into the back room and pulled two out to replace it. Of the three they had, two were produced WITHOUT gas ports! I called Remington and asked for a fix. I was told "Sir, we make thousands of barrels a day and sometimes we make mistakes, we are human". I agreed that we are all human and make mistakes, but differed with her, telling her that I made mistakes too, I just didn't sell mine.

Several years later my Sergeant bought a new 700 in 7WSM. After three rounds that required a hammer to open the bolt (he ain't too bright) it was checked by a smith. No throat was cut. Remington replaced his gun with a Blem gun. So he got a blem gun, after paying for a new one, after weeks of hassle.

For this reason I will not purchase a new Remington. Too many CQ issues without fixing them. Now, a used older Rem? I am on it like stink! And as far as I am concerned, I will never own a SAvage...just too darn ugly.

Haven't had that problem yet, but i use the Leupold twist in with the windage rear. I install them, then use a piece of one inch, t6 aluminum bar stock that's about thirty inches long , and align that with the barrel. Gets it really close to center that way. I also use a piece of scotch tape inside the rings to protect the scope from marks. Never had one move yet, and I'm really hard on my hunting guns. I have a lapping tool, but move scopes around so much I got to using the tape.

Remington quality has been very poor for the past 10-15 years. None of my friends are family members are buying them new any more. Most are buying Savages now.
