Remington J-Lock shroud mod

Can the J-lock key on a remington shroud be removed and still be operable?

Im asking because I have a 722 action that I had a PTG bolt built for and the cycling is stiff from the aluminum shroud threads galling up in the stainless bolt body. I tried greasing the threads, but no luck. Everything is timed perfectly and the trigger sear does not engage until down stroke of handle after the lugs are cammed so the threads are definitely the problem.

I have a stainless firing pin assembly with the J-lock shroud that I took off a 700 SS Ultra Mag action. I would like to put that shroud on my 722 PTG assembly ito see if it smooths out the cycling. But only if there is a way to get rid of the J-lock. Thanks so much.

Rotate the pin 180degrees inside the striker to disable the ISS/J Lock feature.

Your PT&G 722/Short Action bolt body is not stainless steel it is chrome moly.

Your ISS/J Lock firing pin assy from a 700 S/S Ultra Mag will not fit into your 722/Short Action Bolt body w/o some alterations/machine work.

The only part that is interchangeable between std firing pin assy's & ISS/J Lock firing pins is the 3/32" cross pin.

Thanks Dan. I did not realize they were that different. I suppose I'll just order the appropriate SS shroud from Dave Kiff.
