Remington Extractors

I have a Stiller Predator with what I believe Mr Stiller is using, Dave kiff bolt. I spun a new Chambered barrel on my Long Range prone rifle last week and broke it in last friday.

Ive been noticing that the cases were a little tight and when the bolt closed it had to be sorta bumped with my hand the last little bit to get it closed. So I went back through all my brass and got that straightend out. But still there is a little snapp at the end to get the bolt closed. I pulled the extractor out of the bolt and there was a fair amount of crud in behind the extractor groove. I cleaned all that up and replaced the extractor. It is ALOT better but still has that last little bump at the end. A little more than I like. Is it possable I need to replace the extractor with a new one? I was thinking of getting rid of the Ejector like my other two prone guns also.

Have any of you had this problem with the extractor?

Thank you

Be thankful for that little bump. It shows a tight fit. You might much more displeased without that little bump and spent brass staying in the chamber. Are you sure your cases are not to long?

Im 90% sure the cases are good to go. Im going to pull the extractor out and see if it still does it. I have another Brand new Extractor from Brownells here Im going to pop that one in just to give it a fresh one. Keep the old for a back up if it turns out it was OK.

Thanks for the Reply.

I had a similar problem.

Turned out that the extractor was just a few thou too long, into the rim).

Three or four seconds with a rubber abrasive tip on a Fordom solved it.

Now there is just a few thou, literally) of clearance between the extractor and the bottom of the groove.
