Remington extractor

I am with problems to remove the Remington 700 extractor. Seems that it has a pin through the bolt head who keep it from leaving out . What can be done. Drill out the pin :-\

That is an older bolt.
Use a #1 centerdrill from the outside.
Brownells has new rivets and extractor. Not an easy job to replace. Might see if they have a tool also.
New style "C" clip extractor will not work.

Easy job for you. Get a correct size punch and drive it inward to remove. Get new extractor and rivet. You can buy the tool to hold the rivet, or some guys use a brass of the correct caliber to drive against, some use a punch held in a vise to drive against. Up to your mechanical ability but it is a 10 minute job, including coffee break. Once installed file or gring the outside of the rivet smooth with outer bolt body surface. $10 plus shipping from Brownells, Midway, etc

Today I received a PTG oversize bolt, so now the older will be used to improve my skills.

So, one question for you guys, way more smarter than me.

I am tempted to sleeve the old bolt. I will make a device to hold the back of the bolt in the four jaw chuck and indicate it true. But my doubt is in the bolt lugs area. If I indicate in by the firing pin hole, as the hole isnt centered( it measured .010" out)the lugs and bolt body will be not centered. If I center by the bolt body, using the 4 bolt device, the bolt body and lugs will be well centered, but the firing pin will strike the primer off center.

So, what your opinion and recomendation for a "wannabe" :-[gusmith.

Excuse my bad english.

Ptg makes a bolt truing jig for your lathe. Go to ptg's site and look at the tools he sells for remingtons or brownells.
