Remington Detachable Mag.

I've been looking at a remington rifle with a factory detachable magazine. I might use this in mid-range matches or later for a varmint rifle. I really don't need the precision repeater, but the DM make it more desireable to me anyway. I haven't seen too many of this style and was wondering if people shy away from the factory detachable magazines. Is there something inherently wrong with them that people go to the aftermarket DM systems? Thanks

The Remington factory magazines and bottom metal are less desirable than Badger Ordnance, etc. Besides that, the Rem. actions are milled specifically for their magazines and the stocks are made differently to accomodate magazine removal. Get a std. 700 and there are several options for magazines and bottom metal, or get a PSS and then you can drop-in HS precision bottom metal and their magazines. I do not recommend HS. I sold my HS stuff and bought Badger Ordnance. I believe the Rem. .338 lapua magnum rifles come with Badger Ordnance bottom metal and Accuracy Int.(AICS) magazines.
