Lots of equipment up for auction. Sad to see it closing down. Looking at some of the equipment though seems like Remington did not run a tight ship. It's quite dirty in there. Compared to other facilities I have seen.

I don't know that they are closing down or just getting out of New York due to the political climate there and the seizure of assets.

There are companies producing higher quality firearms with much newer equipment and smaller footprints.

Maybe they are disposing of the old equipment and old ways of doing things?

That Huntsville plant was a lot neater and cleaner than Ilion. From what I recall, the factory building in Ilion was structurally limited, so they could not arrange it the way they wanted. Floors not rigid enough or machine tools too heavy, I forget which. There were 870 parts everywhere you looked. As far as I know, they were not manufacturing ammo there in Ilion.

Sadly, it’s less expensive to build a new facility than to renovate/repurpose one that is 200 years old…

I'm not buying that. The USG doesn't make anything, they contract out. No ammo manufacturer is going to relocate to NY to keep a 200 yr old building "open"
This wasn't even an ammo plant, so the argument doesn't make sense.

New York has a tyrannical power hungry Governor named Kathy Hochul who trying to take away all of the PEOPLES 2nd Amendment RIGHTS !

Looking at the equipment, I would say that much of their manufacturing was manual production and fixture based. The newest of their CNC equipment is 15 to 20 years old and the number of horizontal and vertical milling machines and other manual equipment is far in excess to the support requirements of a modern manufacturing facility.

I guess it isn't well known, (reading this thread) but Remington in NY basically died in the early 2000's. I worked with a fine gentleman (at a different shooting sports company) who had spent his whole life at Remington. Started low, worked his way up into the management and new owners promoted him into the position that he soon found out was to slowly fire everyone and turn off the lights when done. They moved most everything to Huntsville, bought Dakota, (basically a file cabinet and rented equipment) and into Bushmaster. After draining the company of money the owners canned it. It was bought again, but we all know that story. Anyone who thinks this is a new development in NY hasn't been reading for the last 20 years. Remington's equipment was never updated in Ny and it has been moribund for a decade. Sad? Heck YA! But it is not new news.
