Howdy folks.. i was wondering if the davidson action wrench is used to both take off an then replace the barrel an action
can you also tell me 'hopefully' how long an the weight of this wrench
I'm not sure on the davidson as to the wait.
Borden can get you one pretty quickly.
Yes they do take the barrels on and off the action. You will also need a good barrel vise. There are many kinds out there. Borden makes a nice one. You will also need that little line up jig unless your recoil lug is pinned on. I would get the rear entry . You will find it works on other actions as well.
i hope this helps gerry
thanks.. not sure which brand it is i used Davidson as example.. why i asked i was wondering if it would fit into a flat rate box [small] for shipping 8x5x2 in.
i have the barrel lug jig not knowing if the action is pin'd
the vice is next looking for a used one at the monent ...
thinking some one may have a not needed one anymore ?
Edit: i just thought does this wrench fit both long an short actions ?
The Davidson and most other action wrenches that I have seen will NOT fit in a small flat rate box. A larger box yes.
All the action wrenches that are rear entry that will work in a Remington will work in a Stolle, Pierce, Hart or any other Remy clone. Will not work on a BAT. Will work on both long and short actions.
RichG: 8 and 7/16" long and exactly one pound. I also have and use the Davidson barrel vice, both purchased from Sinclair. Very pleased with both: high quality.
For factory barrels there is nothing better than the Brownells action wrench.
The same applies for the barrel vice nothing beats a Brownells.
For replacing or removing aftermarket barrels the Kelblys rear entry wrench is hard to beat. The Davidson aluninum barrel vice will do nicely.
The factory barrels are put on by gorillias and are put there not to be removed by the average guy.
To prevent damage to the action or barrel it is suggested you use a heavy duty wrench and vice.
It is not worth twisting or warping and action. Many factory barrels on blued guns are rusted in the action from being blued while they were assembled. Sometimes they require a relief cut to be removed.
