Remington 788 gunsmith

Looking for a gunsmith to float around an idea on for a Remington 788. I would like to talk with a gunsmith who has had extensive experience or knowledge on the platform. I would like to convert a 308 to 45 Raptor for a straight wall deer rifle. Also looking for some parts as well. Please let me know if you have anyone in mind. Thank you!

I would think any competent 'smith could handle that. The 788 does have a "skip" in the threading, but that is not a big deal. I don't know how to make the mag work, but that shouldn't be too hard, since the Raptor is based on the 308 case.
The factory barrel is a straight taper, not a contour = easy peasy

Nothing special required to rebarrel one. What parts are you looking for?
Well one question would be could I just rebore an existing 308 barrel? Not sure if the barrel is thick enough to handle a .45 caliber. Would be cheaper and would still look/feel original. Parts I need/want are an original walnut stock for 308, some magazines(for 22-250 not 308), maybe a rear sight assembly or 2.

Re boring a barrel I highly doubt would be cheaper than a new barrel chambered and fitted. You can get a new barrel contoured to match the originals. The only reason there is a skip in the tennon threads is it was designed with 2 threads on the front action screw protruding into the front ring where the tennon is.

My current 788 project gun is in 6br and just did a normal tenon without the skip and a new front action screw. I'm also really considering eliminating the rear action screw ferrule and drilling the tang for a 700 size and style action screw. I hate when guns have mismatched action screws, especially when one is a real oddball size.

Forgot to add, I just ordered brand new 22-250 magazine from Numrich. Not as nice as an original, but functions fine. Was about $35.
