Remington 783

Looking at the Remington 783 in the daily bulletin, it would seem that Remington has paid Savage the ultimate compliment by copying their design. Hope it works as well as the Savage does.

Other than the tupperware stock,I dont see how it could be any worse and then again they brought us the wonderful 770.

Not one gun owner can now say savages are ugly...the new 783 just took that honor.
What would be sweet though was if the threads are "savage" style so you can do bbl swaps.

Looks like Remington is going head-to-head with the new Ruger American Rifle. Very similar in design and execution though I like the "V" block stock mounts in the Ruger. Should be an interesting comparison.

Gonna take a lot to overcome the ugilness that is the Savage sex toy bolt handle.

I would like to see the bare action and bolt...it might be a candidate for modifications...if it is anywhere near the old 788 it could be a good budget target/varmint action...

Have to tell you, I, for one, like the Savage Model 12 bolt. I like the way it disassembles and the separate head which gives the ability to change calibers without needing a new bolt. That doesn't mean that it is superior to Remington-style bolts or inferior, just different -- and that doesn't make it bad.

This new 783 action looks like a total departure from anything Remington has had before, including the 788. It is very close to the Ruger American design, which is a compilation of a combined Tikka/Savage designs. I like the tubular receiver, clip and barrel nut design. It will be interesting to see how the trigger design plays out. If nothing else, this looks to make some good choices available for inexpensive hunting rifles that still have good accuracy.

I'm a diehard 788 fan. In theory this could have some potential. But considering my dealings with more recent Remington quality control issues, I'd be quite suspect of this action.
