Remington 721 Bolt Stop

Tonight I completely disassembled my old 721. I think there was crud from the 1960's in the bolt. Anyway went to put things back together and I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't make the bolt stop work properly. Now, I don't remember if there was a bolt stop spring. I know how to replace it, but I don't remember seeing one when I took things apart. The 700 bolt body shows a little cut out under the bolt stop where the spring goes. The 721 doesn't have that cut out. That's why I thinking it didn't have one. Sure would appreciate if anyone having a 721 can take a picture of the trigger, (bolt stop side) so I can see what is going on. Yes, it was working fine before I took it apart. LOL. HELP please.

721 and 722 have a coil spring that fits in a bore and applies tension to the bolt stop, somewhat similar to a Win M 70. Yours is most likely in the corner of your garage under the water heater or some such place. If your spring is working, check the interface of the bolt stop and the bolt stop release on the trigger housing. It may not be meshed correctly.

There is a hole drilled into the receiver just behind the pin hole roughly that the coil spring inserts into and contacts bolt stop when installed. Me not so good at explaining with a key board. Same kinda setup as the XP and 600's and I think Model 7 use. May have gunk in the bolt stop slot so you can't see the hold. With receiver bottom facing up look into the bolt stop recess with a flash light if needed.

KENDOG,

You are gifted! Man, am I glad I didn't give that spring a fling! Flipped the action over and right away figured where it went. She works perfect! Thank you very much. You gotta love this site!!
