remington 721 30 - 06

good luck,,,,they are scarce as hens teeth,,,,you may be ahead to have a sako/M-16 style extractor installed,,,,,Roger
I was thinking about the m 16 style because they install a roll pin , more secure. My only concern is cutting bolt face and sottering in a bushing .
how does that sottering joint hold up under fire ?

There are two basic types of extractors from the 721 series to the modern 700 actions.
One is the riveted type, the other kind of snaps in. Either one is an in stock part in most suppliers of Remington parts. If you have a local gunsmith, he can determine which one you have and replace it, no problem.

Contact kendog on this site. There is another discussion going on, with this problem.

Mine is the snap in type , with two elongated holes at each end . I' ve tried everywhere , can't find one anywhere . I wrote kendog about the extractor he has , but I haven't heard back yet .

721/722/600/660/XP-100 extractors are NOT interchangeable w/ 700/40X rivet type or snap in extractors.
You have 4 options-
fit a SAKO extractor & silver braze a bushing into the bolt nose.
fit a Mini or M16 style extractor & silver braze a bushing into the bolt nose.
fit a 700 bolt to your 721 L/A w/ .473" face.
fit a PT&G bolt w/ extractor options of your choice.

Thanks , Dans40x . I will look into all these options , Lee.

I broke mine several years ago. I finally gave up trying to find a replacement and put a Rem700 bolt in it.

I have an old 722 that I had a SAKO extractor installed in it. The 'smith silver soldered the original extractor groove and did a miniscule clean up of the bolt face when I had the job done. The old one was worn so bad that only brass with a full diameter rim would extract (.222 Remington).

.270 in a model 721 here. Broke the original extractor, looked and looked for a stock replacement. Nothing. Ended up ordering and modifying an extractor and fitting it to the bolt. Took 3 tries to get an extractor that was close.

The extractor I installed has snapring holes on both ends. I dremeled the claw a bit and removed material from the sides so it’d fit the bolt slot.

It pulls all fired cases. No hiccups yet.

Wouldn’t use it to hunt bear, though.

My +21 is a family heirloom. Been handed down for a while. After the extractor broke, I had it replaced with a Sako. Functions flawlessly now.
No intention of highjacking but a little story about my 721. As a kid I shot the thing...... relentlessly! It was always accurate but I didn't really know how to tune it. Couple of years ago I dug it out and started shooting it again. It had a pressure point at the end of the forearm so I removed that and glass bedded the action. Worked up a load and voila'. I had a solid .5moa rifle! Several trips to the range I amazed my buds and myself with how well the gun would shoot!
Then I decided to give it a good cleaning. The bore had only ever seen Hoppes #9 and a bristle brush so I figured I'd clean it well and get the copper out. BAD IDEA! My .5moa 721 is now a 1moa 721!
So now the rifle is back to Hoppes and a bristle brush and I'm thinking that maybe in another 50 years the .5moa will come back.
