Remington 700 serial numbers

Anyone have a good way of getting a manufacture date on 700s with the serial number, neither of mine have factory barrels so I don't have a barrel code to go by............

There is a book : The Remington 700 by John F. Lacy that has what you want to know . A friend owns a copy and it's helped me when I've wanted to date an ACTION rather than rifle .
