Remington 700 Bell and Carlson DBM Question

I am looking into getting a bell and carlson A2 stock for my 6.5x47 lapua build on a remington 700 action. I would like to run the M5 style bottom metal but I keep reading where it doesn't work with B&C stocks and how B&C stocks shouldn't be inletted. Will the M5 bottom metal work with the B&C stock? Does anyone have personal experience with this combo? Is there a smith near western illinois that could do it at a decent price if my smith isn't up for it?

Re: Remington 700 Replacement Stock

That is why it is not recommended. When the shell is opened, you expose the foam.

Is anyone running this combo?

If there is no way it will work, what options do I have for detachable mag systems to put in a b&c stock that will run aics mags?
I won't run the wyatts system because I don't want to be limited to their mags only.

How thick is that B&C outer shell before I’m supposed to break through to discover that there’s actually some sorta “foam” underneath?

You aren't "supposed" to. That is why it isn't recommended. I don't know the actual thickness of the layup, but, it's pretty thin. Very little sanding to cut right through. They are inexpensive stocks for more than one reason, but serve a purpose.

I have three of the B&C stocks. They’ve been scrapped along with some sanding necessary for clearance in the barrel channels, and to have ‘em fit the actions to suit me. Could be it depends on which of the B&C models, I dunno, but so far I’ve not encountered a foam or foam like material nor evidence suggesting any such might lurk just underneath the surface.

Bell and Carlson stocks are constructed using a "hand lay-up" process, using a variety of "composite" materials. These composites, including fiberglass, aramid fibers, graphite, epoxy gel coats and laminating resins; and polyurethane reinforcement with milled fiberglass, provide a warm and solid feel rather than the hollow, toy like impression one gets from injection molded stocks.

That "polyurethane" is open cell foam, mixed with fiberglass shavings. It's used to reduce weight and sound. The labor involved in a "hand lay-up" process would double the price of the stock.

So, what B&C says on their website is Untrue?
It isn't the first time misleading statements have been stated. Untrue, and misleading kinda go hand in hand. They can be using a chopper gun, and state "hand lay-up" simply due to the gun being used by hand. Much like "made in U.S.A." (with imported materials), assembled in U.S.A. (meaning re-packaged in a different box for retail sale). Even though the gelcoat is sprayed into the mold, it's done by hand, using a spray gun.

Another example: assembled by hand (using power tools). Misleading, but not untrue!

I fully comprehend that you are sure that you know more than B&C about how their stocks are made. As a matter of fact it appears to me, that you know darn near everything, about everything.

Dishonest, or misleading, Eddie? Look at the window sticker on a U.S. made vehicle. Made in the United States, with a substantial percentage of the components and equipment sourced from other countries. You'll also find attached somewhere on the vehicle a sticker the states "proudly made by the UAW". They are in fact, assembled here, not really made here. Those statements are misleading, but not dishonest, at least here in the U.S. The sticker also lists the final point of "assembly".

Looking at the window sticker from my truck, 37% of the parts came from other countries. Only the sound system on my wife's car came from another source, the remainder was made and assembled in Germany.

Not a problem to inlet that stock. Go for it or plenty of smiths here can do it for you.
