December '70 is pretty late in the year, by my reckoning.
I've got a FYOP R700, too, a 1967 Varmint Special in 6mm Rem. It has the fleur de lis checkering, blued metal, and a 24-in barrel heavy barrel. I found it in a pawn shop in mint condition. The best deal I ever scored on a rifle.
