Remington 700 Action

IMO, the proper way to true an action is in the lathe. It involves a long set up period, followed by single point truing of the receiver face, locking lug recesses, and the receiver threads. The cutting of the face and lug recesses only takes a few minutes, but single pointing the threads requires more time to get the tool set up properly. Then comes the bolt. The back of the locking lugs and the boltface should be trued, although I find myself using Dave Kiff bolts mostly now and they don't need to be trued. As mentioned before, set-up is the critical part and is very time consuming. Jigs are available from Kiff as well as Gre-Tan, but making your own jigs saves a bundle and is good experience.
