Remington 700 ..233 convert to 6br

I have a heavy bbl Remington .223 that I have never shot. Can that gun be converted to a 6br? I don't mind single feeding.

Also there is a 700 BDL 30-06 in my safe that I haven't shot in years would this be a better choice?

To use the 223 it will add $95 to the cost as you will need to put in a Sako extractor due to the modified bolt face. The 30-06 is too long for the 6BR in my opinion. ,but you know how that goes!) I used a 223 Savage for my 6BR and like it.

You can rebate the rims and not modify the bolt face. Butch

I didn't take the time to get exact measurements, but I don't think the rims of 6 BR cases can be rebated far enough to function with a .223 bolt.

Either of your actions will work for the conversion. The .30-06 is a bit long, but that is not a real problem. The bolt face is the right size and you only need a new barrel.

The .223 has the right size action, but the bolt face will need to be machined for the larger case head, and then a new barrel.

Pick one, and don't look back. Have the new barrel chambered for Lapua factory brass, .272" or .271" neck, and as close to minimum SAE spec as possible. Choose a twist for the shooting you will be doing: 1:12 or 1:14 for lighter bullets,55-75 gr.), shorter ranges,100-400 yards); 1:8 or 1:7.5 for heavy bullets,80-115+ gr.), long range,500 to 1,000).

So close but so far...

I would just sell the complete HB 223 as it should be valuable and then find a .473" bolt faced action,22-250, 243, 6mm, 308, 7-08 and others) to build the 6BR project.

A 40x action would be great too for single shot use but are harder to find and generally more expensive.

I have an old 40x that was originally a 6mm International that was re-barreled with a Shilen to 6BR and it is my favorite prarie dog gun under 600 yards.
