Remington 5R Mil spec

I have been thinking really hard about trying out a Rem 5R in 223. Does anyone have experience with one? The 5R rifling is supposed to be different and cleans up faster and collects less copper. Almost sounds to good to be true...

The new trigger doesn't excite me but can be replaced ;)

Thanks for any help!

hey I own one and I love mine.still with less than 100 down the pipe it shot a .300+/-a few.I was shooting 75g Berger vlds with IMR4007.can not remember weight at the moment.and it does clean up good.I also have one in 308 and it cleans up good too.I am thinking about getting one in 300wm next year if they run them again.read just the other day that a guy had one in 300wm and said it shot just as good as the 308 with little tuneing time.the 5R'S seem to be a great choice for those like me that can not really afford a custom rifel.the onley thing that I don't like about them is that you or your FFL handler has to go through Accusport to get a price on them.but I have a # for Accusport 1-800-543-3150 and they can give you a retail price.both of my 5R's were around 1000.00.hope this helps John

Thanks for the info, getting one is not a problem. I have a dealer in town with 2 on hand.

The main thing I was curious about is cleaning compared to a standard, non 5R) factory Rem barrel.

the barrels that remington puts on are hammer forged--not cut or buttoned like the custom barrel makers. you could just order a barrel from any of the manufacturers listed on this sight and put it on a receiver if you have one.
