Remington 511 Rifle in .22LR

I was going through the safe and forgot about my father-in-law's old Remington 511 bolt action .22 repeater rifle. It is in decent condition with original magazine and leather sling. I am not able to locate much info on this one and wondered if there was an upgrade path or would it be worth the time and effort?

The 511 was usually a sporting rifle in the 511/512/513 series. The 513 T was a target rifle with a manly stock, real sights, heavy barrel. They were commonly used for youth rifle teams back when you could learn to shoot at school.

If it were my rifle, I would clean it well and teach a kid to shoot with it. Go bag some squirrels, perferate some cans, break some claybirds (on the ground!). Teach the kid to use open sights and to be responsible.

Or pack it up and send it to me. I have a soft spot for old 22's. ;)

The 511 and other "5-teen" rifles are solid rifles. As for upgrading, I don't think the 511 is worth it, unless it's to add a different sight. But they are great field rifles.
