Just inherited a international 40X free rifle. Know where I can get some info on the rifle? It was to have a set of Redfield international sight, but can not find them. I want to buy a pair. nilebartram
Are you planning on shooting it, or keep it as a "collectible"? If it will be a shooter, invest in a decent set of sights such as Warner, PNW, Phoenix, etc, and enjoy the rifle. If it will be a collectible/safe queen, spend the time finding the Redfields. Ebay also frequently has Redfields listed.
I found the Redfield sights. I want to thank my older shooting buddies. They are a big information of these older American 22LR rifles. From them I found out my 40X is not a original international 40X. It was made to be one with a Freeland international stock. I was disappointed that it was not a original, because those are very rare. Anyway, the rifle shoots well, but it is very picky about ammo. I have shot 5 types of 22 LR. CCI green tag shot best so far. I shot SK standard, match pistol, match rifle, RWS 50. It did not like RWS 50 or I was disappointed with the group. It did like SK pistol match at 50 yrds and SK rifle match at 100 yrds. This was done last fall. When the weather gets nicer I will try some others. nilebartram
I forgot to mention, I have a Winchester 52-B with a Freeland stock. Guess my Dad liked these Freeland stocks. I sold the freeland stock after I found out it was not a real international, for a lot of money. With the money, I bought a original walnut 40X stock, a Lee 6 benchrest stock with thumbhole and enough money left over to buy the wife dinner and some flowers. nilebartram
