Remington 270 model sportsman 78 & model 700

I own a Remington 270 model sportsman 78. I love this rifle, the accuracy is astonishing. I bought it in the early 90's and I take it with me every time I go out in the country.
I want to purchase a new bolt for it but I am only seeing bolts for a model 700. Does anyone know if the 700 model bolt will work in my model sportsman 78?

When I bring it out caribou hunting in winter the temperature can drop to -20F and it misfires. I took the bolt apart and tried cleaning it out but it's still the same. Works fine in the summer temps.

-Maybe to much lubricant between body and firing pin spring for the cold weather.
-Maybe a weak firing pin spring, try a Wolf Spring, IE, 28# , about 8 bucks. Test it on a bathroom scale. Should read about 23 pounds.
-Maybe some drag between the shroud and firing pin.

I'd suspect the firing pin spring.

I agree with the magnum primers. You didn't mention calibre but if you try magnum primers back you powder charge up at least 2 grains. Look for pressure signs. Happens to me in super cold weather also,

What exactly happens? Does not fire? Hang fire- delay? Primer dented? Happens on every round tried? Are they reloads? Rebarreled recently?

Primer dented on every round, not reloads, not rebarreled. Happened like that on two separate hunting trips in below 0 Temps. My friend's 30-06 worked fine for him on same trip together.
A complete bolt looks spendy. Thinking about just trying a Tubbs spring now. Any idea where I might find one?

On Tubbs web site.

Brownells. If you are doing it yourself you may need a spring decompression tool and a GOOD roll pin punch on the stubby side and soak the crosspin in kroil or similar prior. A bootlace or dime will work to get to the FP assembly. The rest can be challenging.

When you have your bolt apart clean any excess lube from inside the bolt body, the fact that the problem occurs when it is below 0 makes me think that there is likely enough lube inside the bolt that it is thickening in cold weather and impeding the firing pin strike.

Clean the bolt and when you lube, use Lock ease, it will keep fire pin and spring from freezing in very cold weather, like you mention, yet still offer some lubrication.

You could simply send the bolt to a site member who specializes in bolt repair. One that come to mind is carlsbad in Calif. who has done bolt work on two 700 Remingtons for me including changing the springs (which I provided).
