Remington 223 magazine feed

I've got a model 7 in 223 that I had a Benchmark barrel on and I'm shooting 80 gr Bergera out of. I'd like to be able to feed them from the magazine without going to a detachable mag. There's a block welded in to the box that makes it too short to allow the longer bullets. Any suggestions? I've already cut and welded the block to give me .1" more length but any more and the follower has too much play

What does it feed like with play in the follower . I've got some rifles with more than 1/4" play that feed fine . Or you could find a 30-30 follower from the savage 340 ( Numrich ) , a 220 swift or 225 win follower from a Winchester , maybe a 22-250 follower .

I can help you, I machine Remington Model 700 and model 7 AR-15 mag DBM's, also there custom shop Trigger Guard Floor-plates with a follower that is red with the engraving empty on it for 223 . dave@kifftool.com
