Remington 220 Swift Brass

I found some 220 Swift Brass for sale. Never used Remington for 220 Swift.

Does anyone know if there are issues with this brass or for that matter if it works well?

Thanks,
D

Back in the days well before the internet, we used paper and mail for getting bulk reloading supplies. Even back then, getting bulk brass for prairie dog trips took patients and long term planning, so when they offered bulk boxes of Remington brass you had to consider it since it was one of very few opportunities to buy by the thousands for varmint calibers.

I used it back then, but I will also add that you had to decide on how to treat it in terms of inspection and sorting. The quality of that Remington factory brass meant that if you just blindly used all of it, you would ingest some serious defects per 100 rounds. However, if you sorted and prepped it, you would typically cull about 4% on a bad batch and 1% on a good one. Defects to me included things like really bad primer holes and gross runouts, all aside from obvious shipping damage which I just dismissed since it arrived in a bulk box.

That background is more than 25 years old, so take it with a grain of salt. Things can change quickly with some companies and Remington was certainly not immune to corporate games that influenced who was in charge of quality on the brass floor. Since those days, I have seen both good and bad examples from Remington bulk brass. I will admit, my time is more important to me now so when I have higher quality alternatives I will spend more to avoid Remington (and Federal, etc.). These days, we don't get many choices...

If that is what you can get, I would say there is nothing wrong with it as long as you are prepared for at least some spot checks to make sure it meets your own standards. When I think about it, the only real difference in this discussion today versus thirty years ago, is there are a few companies that have been able to deliver bulk brass that I don't have to fuss over to start loading. But even that means I have checked it to come to that conclusion.

Remington Brass has been, way BETTER than, the "Late model",,.. Winchester, "chit" !
Sort ( Weight ) and Visual the Primer flash holes as noted above and you should be, good to go !
I use IT in,.. .243 Win, .22-250 Rem, .223 rem and .270 WSM,.. works fine for, ME !
The Deer, Elk, Coyotes and Sage Rats I've shot, seem,.. HAPPY !
I DO Like Norma Brass in, the 6 XC tho !

I must not be picky enough. When 220 Swift brass was more readily available a few years ago, I bought an ample supply of Remington and Winchester brass. Some was NOS, some once fired, some more. The old Super WW was definitely different than the other Winchester and Remington. Spent a lot of time prepping cases but all turned out nice. Need to start loading as PD season is approaching and I do need some Swift loaded.

I never loaded Remington brass in my Swift but it worked well in a 22 Varminter.

I found in one lot of Winchester Swift brass necks measured 0.0165”
One lot of Hornady Swift brass necks measured 0.013”

I did a 70% turn on the Winchester necks and am getting great results on paper.
Given the huge SAAMI spec chamber neck, thicker brass might help- sizing down a mite less??

I’ve used several brands of brass for my swifts. Part of that was a couple hundreds of Remington brass that held up as good as older Winchester and such. 41.5 grains of H414, 55 grain ballistic tip, WLRM primer is what that rifle likes.
