Remage??? Please explain

Ive seen remage receiver set ups talked about a lot here lately..

Are yall taking a 700 receivers, using a lathe to cut out all the threads inside the action tennon, then threading the outside of the action to use a barrel nut on? Where a barrel blank would just slip in..?

You don't cut the threads out of the tenon. The barrel still has to be attached to the receiver somehow. If you milled the tenon threads out, the barrel would have no way to attach to the receiver. Savage barrel nuts do not attach to the outside of the receiver. Savage barrels attach internally on the receiver just like a remington 700. The Savage barrel nut is attached to threads extended on the barrel. They do not have a headspacing shoulder on the threads. The nut basically just takes the place of the shoulder so you can adjust your own headspacing making it easy to swap out barrels. Think of a Savage barrel nut as a 'jam' nut that holds the barrel in place on the receiver.

A Remage barrel is just a 700 barrel that uses a Savage style barrel nut to make the 700 barrels easy to swap.

You can also thread a barrel on a Savage with a shoulder to not use a barrel nut and the finished product looks just like a barrel attached to a normal Rem 700. Don't know what you'd call that tho...maybe a Savington???

Ahhhh yesss, i was thinking savage barrel nut and AR15 slip in barrel... confused myself some, BUT ive never delt with a savage, i dont own any, never have, so i dont know how they work.

Makes since though. I appreciate the discription led slinger.

And no it wasnt a joke... I have custom actions and swap barrels with a vice and action wrench. AND i like it this way better, i never had a reason to think about doing anything differently.

I see NO reason not to have asked the question. The only stupid question is the UNASKED one!

Rem/Age is a barrel that uses a nut to adjust head space . It take the maching process out of Chambering a gun barrel for one special action . Larry
