Remage barrel keeps shooting loose

Vicodan, it strikes me that since that other action has a remage that is happy now.....you can isolate the issue by trying the nut/lug/action from that set up with the problem barrel. if you get no joy then you are down to the barrel being the cause. If you get reams of joy....then you further test the nut and or lug to get to the root of the all the evil.

good luck sounds frustrating.

Take your calipers and measure the OD of the thread on that barrel, then measure the Od of thev threads of a known good barrel. Post those numbers
Next take your barrel nut and put it on each barrel, wobble it and feel the difference , last thread each barrel into the receiver , again wobble
I m betting out of spec threads allowing the barrel to jump threads under recoil

I would do as Larry recommended and check to make sure you have even contact from the lug to receiver and the nut to the lug. A cheap tube of bluing would make this an easy check. If there is not adequate clearance in the threads the nut may not square up properly. If the lug does not have enough radial clearance it could also keep the assembly from squaring up if the receiver(s) face is not square with the threads. My thinking is a factory Remington or Savage will not be square ( reciever, lug, barrel nut, etc...) and there has to be enough clearance in the threaded assemblies to allow them to shoulder.

Here are 2 posts he made later that may give some insight.

Made this mistake once myself. I was using the Brownells nut wrench that looks like an action wrench (the clamping kind). You can tighten up the wrench on the nut to the point that you can't turn the nut! You think you have the nut tight against the action but in fact you haven't even moved it. Now I just snug it up hand tight and go ahead and torque the nut to the action.

I use the green bearing and sleeve threadlocker with the loose fit of the barrel nut system. Doesn't require much heat to remove and helps fill the sloppy thread clearances. Loctite states that it works best between “engaged threads”. Never had one come loose.
