anybody know how much difference there is in the magnum and standard factory weight barrels,,,I have a BDL wood stock from a standard cal and may put a magnum weight barrel in it,,just wondered how much would have to be done to the bbl channel in the stock,,

The biggest difference is at the breech, with the mag being 1.25 vs the sporter 1.187. I don't think there is any area within the barrel channel area of the barrel that isn't a tad bigger on the magnum. The two get closer and closer to one another as you move from the breech. This is from a couple of takeoff that I have laying around

so if I was going to remove the pressure pad at the front of the wood BDL stock and float the bbl and bed the action it shouldnt be much more work?

Well, yes and no. No, not a big deal but it'd be easier to use a sporter contour. In a hunting rifle, I don't think you'd be leaving any perceptable accuracy on the table with the std sporter. Just my opinion.
