Rem. XR-100 action for Palma rifle?

I can pick-up a Rem. XR-100 rifle in .308 for cheap. I would like to build a Palma rifle from the solid bottom, single action. My questions are: Is this a decent action for this project, or am I better off w/ something else? Are there stocks available, w/ rails for hand stops, for this action? Are the Williams or Lyman rear sights ,sold by Brownells, useful for match shooting, or are they complete junk? Any knowledgeable answers would be greatly appreciated... Thanx in advance

The action will work for a Palma rifle. There are better ones but the XR-100 will work. There are plenty of stocks available to suit but leave the Williams and Lyman sights at Brownells alone. Sights are important and you need to figure close to a $1,000 just for good sights front and rear.

well , I won't say money is no object, but I'd like to save where I can. I currently shoot service rifle w/ an m1a, so I do know the value of good sights. Thanx for the info. Who can I get a good stock from? Are we talking about the usual suspects like Mcmillan, HS Precision, etc?

Mc,millan makes an nice stock if you want fiberglass or carbon fibor.
There's the HS precision stock
If you want a really nice wood stock then Doan Trevor is the man''
You have many choices an some i haven't thought of.
Take a look at some stes , there are many styles to choose from.

Two of the best producers of stocks are Masterclass and McGee. Check out their websites.

Be prepared for waiting time on items like this as these are the best out there and their products are in demand.

Just a thought, before I would build a Palma Rifle, I would look at the many complete used one's that come up for sale. They are the bargins out there. Building from scratch is very costly and time consuming, plus it helps when you know what you want. Purchasing a ready to shoot rifle from someone already in the sport is a good way to get started.
Consider the bbl that is on the rifle a component of the learning curve. Once you have figured out how to adjust the rifle to fit you and have a good load, the bbl will probably be worn out. You can then rebbl with new and be ready for some good competitions.

Just my .02.
