Showed up today, I got it set up right quick, trigger adjusted, bore cleaned, poor man bore sighted, etc) and went out to ring her out, with the 1 box of ammo I could find, got some ordered though).
Got set up on the highly mobile, but not so steady rest, yamaha rhino bed) and made a couple verification shots @ 50, then shot a not so good group at 100 :, Got to lookin at the bolt, it seemed like it wouldn't go down all the way with or without a round in the chamber.
Went back home, took the stock off, and sure enough, the bolt went down all the way with the stock off. Looking at the stock in the bolt handle channel, you can see the spot where it hits in the picture:
Marked a reference line on the bolt shroud and receiver, first line with the stock on and the second line with with it off. It was about an 1/8' between the lines, pretty good amount of rotation of the bolt. Fired cases looked ok,didn't measure them though)
Got the dremel out and commenced to grindin on a brand new $1000 rifle
Ended up hitting internal aluminum in the stock, so I turned to the bolt, right at the angle and bevel'd it nicely:
ending up with plenty of clearnace, even if some dirt was in there also:
Put it back together, back out to the range, with only 8 rounds left over) and shot a group at 100 and 200 yds:
4 shots, under 3/8' @ 100yds
4 shots, under 7/8' @ 200 yds
MUCH better now, compared to when the bolt wasn't closing all the way!
Ran out of ammo, until tomorrow,if ups shows up?)
After the BS rigging I had to do, it seems to be a keeper!
*First X-mark trigger I've had, this particular one is pretty dang good! Took all of a few minutes to adjust, has zero creep and is suprisingly crispy! Comparing it to previously owned timney, rifle basix, fine tuned old 700 triggers and 40xb M24 types, it feels just as good, at least at the moment.
* got the chronograph out today, 3-19-09, 3 or 4ft from muzzle, factory loaded ammo
Remington 20 gr accutips: 3900 fps avg
UMC 25gr hp's: 3600 fps avg
26' barrel.
