Rem. Model seven love

I'm infected
Sweaty hands..increase heart rate..fever
Those where the symptoms to follow after a week of looking at a new remington model seven hs precision 6.5creed.
The rifle has been in the corner with a new barrel blank and some other part waiting to head off to the gunsmith to be converted to 22br
I want to shoot 69gr and 77gr bullets for small game and plinking steel..but mostly just for fun..
I figured a short compact rifle with a fun cartridge should be a great tool for me to carry around the thick woods. Extremely accurate and alot of fun to reload.
My son and I plan to use this rifle plinking steel plates, messing around at the reloading bench, and in the field.
I've been selling off equipment I dont need anymore as my shooting focus have changed.
Ive gone from years of hunting in my youth..then to target play now back to the field in my 50's with my now adult children
Any way I had a burris timberline 4.5-14x 32mm (I love these scope and own 3)..for my eyes and there a mess this optic clarity seems to be more crisp and natural then my leupold optics.
(for me and my eye)
I did side by side comparison at the range one time when I had a few rifles out.
Nightforce benchrest
Leupold mark 4
Leupold VX-lll
Burris timberline
For me the nightforce is the most clear and less distorted followed by the timberline scope then the leupolds at some times a 1/4 or 1/3 the cost...that just my opinion of works well for me
I put that optic on the model seven with a set of warne med rings and a EGW pic. base.
Now I cant bring myself to change one thing other then install a new jewel trigger..
So I'm force to buy another Remington model seven for the 22br project..
My son and I are just pretty excited to have a new gun let alone have it set up so perfectly with what I had..
So here are a few pics of our new deer and critter getter ..all shots at game will be with in 100yrds so I believe the 6.5 creedmore in a 7.5- 7.75lb rifle will be perfect.
Now to find a donor for the 22br.
I would like to hear what others have to say about the remington model seven.
Do you or did you own one. What caliber what did you like the most and the least..you know..rem 7 chat.
Thanks

Great rifles for sure it’s the way to go when stalking the mountain tops or just walking varmint rifle I have several model 7 and they do quite well in the field I have a 22-250,7 mm-08 and my favorite 243 rem

I'm very curious..how is the recoil of a 308 win compared to the 7mm-08 rem...I would assume the 7mm is a bit more of a jab then a push like a 308..
As for a .243....I just never liked it..not sure why

My model seven came in handy when i got a flat tire and needed something to jack up the truck.! Just kidding. Are you going with 8twist ? Also i recommend losing the egw base . Egw base is made out of a softer aluminum. Even if you tightened them on good it can and will loosen over time because of peening under the screw caps. You will not know without dissasembly to find this as i did. To eliminate this problem switch to talley lightweight rings as they are made of a super hard alloy that won't peen. Not trying to rain on your parade just trying to help. Update/correction- i just remembered talley makes a one piece rail base just like the egw. Only way better and won't peen. The warne rings are great.

Model 7's are fantastic hunting rifles( at least the older ones). This is especially true for those tight space shoot houses I hunt from. Mine have made me a great fan of two things for deer/antelope; the M7 and the 7mm-08.

With exception of the Custom shop KS, I never fancied the Remington 7 as a factory rifle. But I've ALWAYS wanted a custom one, calibre has varied over the years. 224 Valkyrie, 243, 6.5 Grendel, 260, 7-08 or whatever cartridge I fancy at the moment. Never acted on that impulse though, not sure why.

It might be laziness!

:p yeah, it is certainly not discipline or impulse control - I have a terrible, terrible track record there when it comes to rifles... :D

I have a Rem 700 SA now that is so close to my Rem 7 dream build, I'm finding it hard to motivate a change.

You don’t know what you’ve missed by not shooting a 243 that is my go to round for every thing that walks on these NC hills never seen nothing that lived in the woods around me that could take a 85gr BTHP Sierra in the base of the neck and survive not one

243 (or 6XC or 6mm Creedmoor) is just fantastic. Knocks down deer really well. If we disregard those shot from my 6mm-223, a 6mm bullet =>85gr really drops them. With the new high bc hunting bullet variations, it's even better.
A Rem 7 in 6 Creedmoor, 18" barrel w 1:7,5" or 1:8", a suppressor, sidemounted flush cups for better carry... yes please!

Try it on one of your local NC bigfoot characters.

I always thought the .243 was an ugly cartridge. That's all..hahaha..I know it sounds weird ..but the more interesting I find the cartridge the more time I spend on..nothing personal..just part of my shooting mojo..and I definitely dont need any more disturbances in that force..hahaha

I have three Rem Model 7's, two 223 Rems, and one 243 Win - all 90's circa. One 223 had a 20" SS barrel, the other an 18.5" blued barrel with a nice wooded stock. The 243 Win was 20" SS barrel.

There was no reason for the 243 Win to shoot well with the pencil thin factory barrel and cheap plastic stock but this rifle was unbelievably accurate with reloads. 36.0 Varget with 85 Sierra BTHP's shot in the 1/2 moa range. The only modification I made was to free float the barrel. I finally shot the barrel out and rebarrelled with a Hart No. 3 contour barrel. The rebarrelled rifle doesn't shoot as well so far but I'm working on it - go figure.o_O

The 223 Rem's were intended to my "walking around" varmint rifles but I never could get them to shoot very well, about 1 moa at best. I still manage to take quite a few ghogs but kept the ranges under 200 yards. I have a few farms that have short fields so this worked ok in those areas.

I finally decided to do something about my lack of satisfaction with this rifle's accuracy so I rebarrelled the SS one first with a 20", No. 2 contour Douglas match barrel and replaced the factory stock with a B&C Metalist stock. Wow - this rifle shoots very well now in the .3's - .5's. I had an exceptional year hunting ghogs with it last summer - made some real challenging shots, at least for me. :):):):) and no longer need to limit my opportunities to under 200 yards since I have confidence in taking longer shots.

Having so much success with that Model 7 223, I decided to rebarrel the 18.5" one with the same barrel and replaced the factory stock with the same B&C stock. Wow - this rifle even shoots better in the .2 - .4's. I now have two very capable stalking varmint rifles - accurate - light weight - and a joy to hunt with.

PS: The 223's were rebarrelled with 12" twist barrels so I could be the maximum accuracy out my favorite varmint bullet, the 50 Nosler BT.

I put Gentry muzzle breaks on all my model 7's, solved any and all issues with accuracy as loads tuned easily during load development. I don't know if it was the recoil reduction or the weight on the end of the barrel that tamed harmonics, but they all turned into pure tack driving rigs!

I was shooting my one and only Model 7 a 7MM-08 tonight. At a 100 yards I cannot quite "brain" a Turkey.

Bartlein 1:9, 20". It was put together by Jim McCullough Rifle Company. It is heavy, but like another poster stated it is handy inside a deer blind or in a tree stand. With practice I am running the bolt at a good rate, the weight helps keep it on target. I ended up with it as a trade fron this site.
