I own two 40X rifles with lower 2 digit serial numbers than any mentioned here and both are factory D&T for receiver mounted scopes. Perhaps you're thinking of the Win. 52 models. One of these rifles I bought from a Rem. engineer and was among the 1st batch of CF 40X's made. CF models were not generally available to the public until more than a year later than the rimfire version, although several were made available to a few BR shooters. These rifles were made off the 722 pattern, which were all D&T for receiver mounted scopes, so no reason to treat the 40X line differently. I don't think there is much likelihood that any of these 2 digit rifles have U.S. markings. That contract came somewhat later. Beautiful rifle manitou, but no idea of value. Don't see these early rifles on the market enough to establish an average.Manitou,
If it is a US Property 40x it has less value than the commercial guns. It will be stamped US under the front scope mount (which, BTW, lowers the value too...these guns were not originally set up for receiver mounts)
I'd say $2000 ish
Those were bargains for sure. I ordered my limit of them when they first came up for sale.Looking at the invoices from the CMP, I paid $370-$380 for each of these rifles, which obviously was a bargain. I'd jump at the chance to buy another original U.S. marked 40XB in nice shape for that price
