Rem 700PSS with Barrel Nut Modification

Hi All,

This was a project kept under wraps for quite some time until now. I've only told Paul about this project. Well, finally got my Remington 700PSS back from Pac-Nor. It's a switch barrel set-up with 6BR Norma,.094 freebore) and 308Win,Sniper chamber). The barrel nut uses the Savage wrench. Pac-Nor did a very nice job on the nut -- it's very slick with a nice contour and tight tolerance, check out the attachment). Haven't had a chance to go to the range as it's been raining here in southern Cal. I'll keep ya'll posted.

John,

Now that is just way cool. So this means you can rebarrel a Remington 700 as easy as a Savage. Smart, very smart. So what's the deal--you get a pre-fit from Pac-Nor and just bolt it on? Do they make/sell the barrel nut too?

This could be a mini-revolution for all those tactical guys. Even if you stay in the same caliber, you could have a 30" Palma taper for F-Class TR, and a fat 22" tube for field carry.

Very nice concept and well-executed. Tell us how it shoots as soon as the skies clear! :thumb:

Nothing new, Fred Moreo has "Sava-taged" numerous Remingtons in the past. :D He's even gone as far as to convert Remington's to use a floating Savage bolt head before as well.

Ok who will guinea pig one for the barrel v block like a 10-22?,grin)

Good execution on the idea though. Savage should take notes.

I agree. I'd love to read over notes taken by Savage!
I think this kind of out-of-the-box building is commendable. Great job.
Here's what a floating bolthead looks like on a remington:

Don't know who did it, but it was done well.

They need to take notes and make the nut look good, as in the pic above. Theirs looks like cancer on an apes hind end. But they did get the idea correct. Just cosmetics could use some work.

Personally, I'd rather see Savage fix the real problems before making appearance changes. Their bolt timing is way off from the factory, reason for the heavy bolt lift), and their synthetic stocks are just pathetic. Unfortunately, Savage see's neither of these as a problem. I've brought both subjects up with Carl Hildebrandt, Brian Herrick, Paula Iwanski and other corporate Savage folks on several occassions, and every time they show absolutely no interest in acknowledging there is a problem. I can see their point however, as even with these deficiencies they continue to see strong sales increases across the board.

In the meantime, Fred will just continue raking in the $$ timing the actions and selling his stocks.
