Rem.700

I bought a Rem 700 Bdl about 25 years ago that had almost no use on it. After I had it a while I noticed that it resembled a "Rem Mtn. rifle". It has the very light 22" bbl. with the countersunk crown, nice walnut stock, highly checkered ( cut, not impressed) phenolic fore end and palm cap, the thin recoil pad. , an extremely long throat (about 12 rounds) that wasn't shot out ( I checked with cerrosafe)and some other similarities.
Every Mountain rifle that I've seen is marked "Mountain Rifle" on the bbl. if I remember correctly. My s/n is C62466xxx. I can't find any references to predecessors to the Mtn. Rifle. Is it possible that this is a prototype/experiment?
This just seems too much of a coincidence for it to have been ordered this way and the prior owner said that it wasn't ordered.
Does anyone have any explanation for this rifle.
I haven't been on line in a long time, so hello to any that may remember me, scpaul

I'll post pics when I learn how. Is there a thread that I can go to for practice so I won't screw up a normal forum ?

Just post them in this thread. You can always delete the post, or edit it until you get what you want. I've never seen a test area on AS like some other forums have. There is info on how to post pics. Main thing is don't make the files too large. I always reduce mine prior to posting.

I've owned two Remington Mountain Rifles. First was blued/wood, 2'nd was SS/synthetic. It was prior to them converting to the nicer synthetic stock with the bedding plate in it. Neither had any markings of Mountain Rifle on the rifle or box.

I believe the 22" barreled mountain rifles have a .55" muzzle. The standard 22" Remington sporter barrel is .66".
