Will a standard 284 case with bullet loaded to an overall length of 3.000", (action opening length is 3.100"), feed reliably from a standard Rem 700 action?

No problem loaded single shot. I've done that with the 284 cases loaded over 3.2 inches but I had to remove the bolt to get a live round out of the gun. However, I doubt that anything that long would even fit into the magazine of a standard R700 short action. I'm guessing that something around 2.9 inches would be the limit based on my experiences with other magazine fed short actions. That is why a lot of people recommend the Long Action for this cartridge with the heavy bullets seated in the neck and out of the case body.
