Rem 700 Sako Extractor Install

Ok, So here is my question. I have a PTG Remington 700 bolt cut for a Sako extrator. I ordered all my parts through PTG but cannot for the life of me get the plunger in far enough for the extractor to drop into place. Am I installing this wrong or maybe there are special parts used on a PTG bolt? It almost seems as if the spring was a hare to long, again maybe it's my method. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

Common with PTG bolts. Simply drill the hole deeper. Sneak up on it.

Thank you, I was thinking of doing just that but thought I would ask the pro's first. I have another bolt with Sako extractor and I can easily install that one so I thought maybe something was up with the PTG bolt. Thanks again, Jon

It may have some chips down in there too

Gage the one you have (for depth) that you can install easily, then gage the PTG. A simple piece of bar (or your scribe) or anything that fits easily into the hole should work as a "gage". Check for chips, as mentioned above.

if it's any help, my PT&G bolt with a sako, the hole is about .400 deep. and it was hard for me to get in as well.

I've seen the same problem. I used a different spring then the one supplied by ptg.

The instruction that came with a small Sako kit from Brownells call for the hole to be 0.450 deep.

Wow, all great information, Thank You. I have already cleaned the hole as there was alot of grit packed down deep. I will measure the hole next, I never thought of measuring my good hole for comparison, great idea. I will also try the spring from my other extractor and measure it as well. Thanks for all the great ideas.
