Rem 700 s\a

Looking for a trued rem 700 s\a where is a good place to buy is the ptg a good source thanks
Talk to James at Northland Shooters Supply.

My son that is in the marines is wanting me to put together him a rifle looking at the 6mm br trying to find options there isn't anyone that builds rifles here where I live anymore so looking to use the remage barrel type . Any thoughts please thanks

IMO, You DON'T want, a fully "Trued" Rem 700 action as, the Criterion Barrels are set up for, existing, Factory, Threads !
Do make sure the Action is Skim "Faced" FLAT and Lugs are Lapped, ALL, to be Square, to EXISTING threads !
I bought, a Badger Ordnance Receiver "Jig" that, holds Tapered PTG Lugs to the action and bolts to the bottom of receiver ( The bottom of, this Jig, is Square and the BEST, I found ! ) and a PTG S/Stl. Lug to match Jig ( 187 Thick and Tapered ) both from, Midway USA.
I am putting, a NICE looking, Hex shaped, CrownRidge barrel works, ( From E-Bay ) Rem Nut on, to hold the Criterion bbl in place, LOCTITE Nut and I'm Greasing, the ACTION's receiver, Threads where barrel goes in.
I will put my Picatinny Base on the TOP of, the action and have, TWO square surfaces, to put in my padded Vise ! Good Luck, finding, a Rem 700 action as they are getting scare, lately. Hope this,.. Help's !

So you are saying to square everything up but leave the threads alone ? I thought it you told them you had a trued action they already had barrels for these also thanks .What action wrench and vise are you using .

With the CrownRidge barrel works Hex Nut, I will be using a "well fitted", Crescent wrench ( LOL ! ) or, a Crows Foot, Box end type of wrench, very carefully ! I'm using, a regular, Large Vise with, Plywood & Leather, "padded Jaws" and putting the Action in it, sideways ( Ejection Port, UP ) and clamping on, the Jig at the bottom of action and the Picatinny Base on top, to hold the action securely, while tightening, the barrel Nut.
Several Vid's on YouTube, will show you, how to fit, a Pre- Fit barrel.
ONLY watch, real Gunsmiths and NOT, the PHONY'S, that know,.. nothing !
You will, probably need to talk to Jim, at NSS about, the Re- Cut threads / Trued actions and about, the Barrel "Match up", capabilities for any future, Barrel use.
MOST people, I've heard say, NOT to do IT as there is not much, interchangeability with, OTHER Barrels, after re-cutting, your actions, thread's ! But it's, your choice.
To truly make, a SUPER Accurate, "Target Rifle", go with, a Top Notch Gunsmith and a shouldered Barrel like, a Bartlein, Krieger, Brux, Muller, etc., using a "fitted and Gunsmith chambered" Barrel. And while you at it, you might as well, put IT on, a BETTER, action, too ! My 6 XC Rifle, is being built on, a New S/ Stl. Rem 700, (Lapped Lugs, etc., but NO, Thread work ! ) and is being built THIS way for, Informal, Fun Target shooting, Steel Plates to 800 yards and Varmint Hunting. The Total Rifle/ Scope etc., will cost me about, $2,000 to $2,500 Max, but IT will NOT be, a "Competition Rifle" as, I'm expecting only, .25 to .500 MOA out of it.
The Rem action and Pre-Fits are "good" for, MOST, "average guy" uses,.. and Budgets !

The guy from, Brownell's on YouTube, is a fair example of, Installation with, a PINNED Lug !
Notice he HAS a Redfield BASE on top of his Receiver for a "Square Hold" on the sideways "grip" of the receiver, in the Vise.
I will have, the Flat Bottomed, Badger Ord. Jig on the Bottom of my receiver that, will be used to "locate" my UN- Pinned Lug and helps for, a GOOD,.. Vise "hold" !
Hope this makes installation of, a Pre-Fit Bbl., easier to understand.
The Barrel Outlet Vid, on YouTube is another, "good one" to,.. Watch !
