I bought 2 Remington 700 BDL in 17 Rem cal. Both are 1-9 twist...some say they made a 10 twist in early models. Found out Hornady made some 15.5 grain copper bullets, so I bought some to see how fast they would go... with H322 I got them to 4803 fps...fastest reading on my chronograph ever... but Benchmark is supposed to get over 4900 fps. 20 to 30 grain bullets are probably a more worthwhile endeavor to pursue.. a fun caliber very low recoil.I finally found one of these, a Rem 700 LVSF in 17 Remington and should have it in a week or so, I can't seem to find though if it is a 1:9 or a 10 twist. Either way I plan on shooting the 25 gr nagels. But can somebody tell me for sure?
If the Nagels are not plastic tipped, a 10 twist, if you got that (highly unlikely), should handle them. It is when you start trying to shoot something like the 25 gr. V-Max in a 10 twist that you can have problems. They are longer than 25 gr. projectiles that have no plastic tips. Some guys with a ten twist report success with them, but my Cooper VE puts out shotgun patterns when I try them. I went down to 20 gr. plastic tipped bullets in my ten twist.I finally found one of these, a Rem 700 LVSF in 17 Remington and should have it in a week or so, I can't seem to find though if it is a 1:9 or a 10 twist. Is that a 17 Remington Fireball? The Fireball had a 9 twist the 17 Remington had a 10 twist. Sure they did. Not as many as, say, .221 Fireballs (never .17FB), but they're out there. More scarce are LVSFs chambered in .243; some .308 Win. and at least one other short-action 30 cal. were also produced, but are lottery-winning rare. I have them in .204R and .221 Rem. FB. A local dealer once mentioned the Remington rep told him they dropped the LVSF line after buyers balked at paying a little extra for the rifle that was basically selling at cost to build, and that Remington also had to eat a bunch of .221s that didn't sell as well as expected. The LVSF was arguably one of the better rifles Big Green made before going downhill. Is that a 17 Remington Fireball? The Fireball had a 9 twist the 17 Remington had a 10 twist. Most 17 Remingtons from Remington had nine twist barrels. Is that a 17 Remington Fireball? The Fireball had a 9 twist the 17 Remington had a 10 twist. I don't know that they made the LVSF in 17 Remington.
