Rem 700 Firing Pin and striker spring length

Quick question guys, I have a 700 that has a j lock bolt. I was going to swap it out, I got a factory bolt shroud and a wolf 24lb striker spring. I was going to reuse the j lock Firing Pin. Well when I go to install these parts the new spring is coiled up just like the factory. My firing pin measures 6 5/8 and my new spring is 5 inches. Is it my Firing Pin or the spring that is the problem?

If you compare the J lock pin to the "regular" style, you will see why your spring is snaking. The regular pin is the same diameter from its back to the shoulder that the spring pushes against. The J-lock cocking piece, shroud and pin are different than the regular pieces. You will either have to live with the snake, or replace all the parts.
