REM 700 converting internal magazine to dbm

Looking for some assistance or see if there is a jig or something out there. I have a rem 700 with internal magazine and no floor plate of any kind. I would like to switch it over to dbm if possible. What is the easiest route for this?

Easiest route is to get a new stock. BDL stocks have more affordable options than DBM inletting and can still do box mags with some metals.

For a true M5 AICS style DBM, then it’s definitely best to get a new stock inletted for a Hawkins or something like that. The cost of having an existing stock inletted would be a good portion of money towards a nice new stock so I would recommend starting with a new stock

What cartridge? There are many DBM bottom metals available in both BDL and M-5 inlets for AICS pattern magazines. Other magazine setups are out there too. Do you have any ideas on which bottom metal and or magazines you want to use?

This rifle is 7 rem mag. The stock kind fo has some sentimental value so was hoping to keep it and convert. But ultimately just want to be able to have a decent 5 round magazine setup.

If you have a mill and are good with it, it can be done. Otherwise as mentioned, you can buy some stocks for what it costs to have yours inletted before the shipping costs.

I did it once on an ADL with a manual mill just to see if I could. It's not easy as the sides taper making it necessary to use a rotary table. The graduations on the rotary are not accurate enough and the backlash too much for the tiny angles needed, but I did all the trig to figure out how far to rotate the table using a dial indicator on a fixture.

There’s lots of them out there to choose from. Unknown Munitions might have the cleanest looking one for a LA. Hawkins has a nice magazine and bottom metal for a LA too.

If it has sentimental value then take it off and put it away and get a new stock.

Do you want wood?
I guess I am open to either. Kind of want to keep the light weight of the wood. But also wouldn’t mind something even more durable.

This looks really great. But thinking this might be above my pay grade and may have to opt for a whole new stock.

Then give a Boyds laminate stock with Hawkins M5 DBM inletting a try. Very affordable, pretty good drop in fit, and easy resale if you do t like it. Lots of options and good colors to choose from. Can even get them with an adjustable cheek piece. I really like the Boyds “Pro Varmint” series stocks. Have put them on a handful of varmint rifles now. I tweak the inletting, if need be, then fully bed the action. Prices on the Pro Varmint begin at $181, but even configured with some extra goodies, you can stay close to $200. Of course their classic sporter stocks are quite a bit cheaper if you want to keep the weight down.

Best to call Boyd’s and talk about everything with them. They are very helpful and will happily shed light on any questions you have

The KRG Bravo is an option for something lighter weight, inexpensive, has a DBM and is an easy bolt in and go.

Or you could go with a Boyd's laminate if you want wood. I linked it in my first post as I thought you wanted wood. Boyd's has a lot of options for styles and colors. I had a Pro Varmint on a Sako 7mmRM and it worked great.

I missed the "Long Action" part somewhere in this thread. For that, I would probably go with a standard Remington BDL inlet and a MagPul DBM. The MagPul inlet is the same as the stock R700LA BDL inlet so the choices are vast and you can always go to a stock bottom metal and mag box if you find you don't like a mag hanging out of your rifle. They accept AI Long-Action mags as well. Some stocks (like HS Precision) need a slight shave with a die grinder at the bridge for clearance.

This is a factory removable mag set up just as an option. I put one in a short action a while back and liked it. Four rounds and flush fit. I would consider buying an after market stock and put the factory one in the safe. Good luck. E
