Rem 700 bolt thread question

How important is the play in the threads where the shroud screws into the back of the bolt. And as well the 1/2" diameter hole in the bolt where the cocking ramp is. Does the corresponding diameter on the shroud need to fit this hole with any precision.
Thanks,
Dr. Lee

Some "plumbers" have been known to wrap the shroud/plug threads w/ teflon tape.

Timing should be the more obvious concern!

I believe it is very important. It's not so much the thread fit as much as the fit between the shroud and the bolt recess. If you have play in that area, when the bolt is cocked, the bolt shroud will push up, when the sear drops, the shroud has to drop down as the firing pin drives forward. If it's a good fit, the firing pin will drive straight forward.
