Rem 700 bolt swap

Is it possible to change calibers (308 to 223) in a rem 700 SA by swapping from a large face bolt to a small face bolt or are there some dimension differences between the two?

Same bolt. Bolt must be fit by a qualified gunsmith to the new action

Feed rails are a bit different between a small bolt face action and a standard. Might feed ok and maybe not. Lay both side by side and compare and it will be evident!

Yes .. Bots can be bushed to be made smaller or opened up from a small bolt face to a larger one.
that said you still nee an extractor job to make them work properly.
all said and done your better off getting a replacement bolt to change calibers.
If you go that route { buying a [replacement bolt} you can always change back to the starting caliber
You would also have the advantage of selling off the bolt you don't need.

Yes you can buy a new bolt with a diff bolt face from PTG and use it in the same action. Just measure the OD to make sure tou order the same diameter bolt.

Rem. SA 223 , sold that bolt. Ordered a PTG one pc. .308 bolt face bolt. Installed on New barrel . NO Problem

I have done and am now doing another .243 to .308 with new PTG bolt.

In the past I had a .308 bushed to .223 and a Sako extractor installed ? New bolt from PTG a better why to go ?
