Rem. 700 --> 6mm Br Rem

Hi,

my new project:
I have got a Remington Varmint 700 Cal 308 Win.
Is it possible to build a 6mm BR Rem ? I think the 6mm Case is build out of a 308 Win Case. Is´t it ?
I´d like to by a Shilen Barrel.Whats the best?
Also i need a new Gun Stock. May be wood or Carbon.
Please tell me your experience.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey falco,
your rem 700 short action is perfect for buiding a 6mm BR. the only other actions currently thought of as better are the custom actions like the Farley, Nesika Bay, Stolle. You will want to decide what grain bullet you want to shoot to determine the ideal rate of twist,such as 1-8" for the 107gr. Sierra Match King), what stock you want to use,richardscustomrifles.com has some excellent wood stocks on there For Sale page for really good prices), what trigger you want to use,most use timney benchrest triggers or you can have yours worked on), find a good gunsmith to true the action for you, and put it all together. I would suggest looking at 6mmBR.com's top gunsmith, barrels, guns of the week and article archive links along the left side of the home page for all the info you could ask for.
Hope this helps!

Your action is perfect i would look at the Tube gun if you like repeters they look awsome and it would be different to what others have the other reason it the AI magazines are single stack and feed the 6mmbr perfectly. If you like wood stocks look at getting an AI mag system fitted if you want a single shot there is no issue either. I would reccomend an 8 twist as you will be able to shoot ALL 6mm bullets except the 115gr DTAC bullet. I have shot 1.2" groups with 55gr Sierra Blitz King's in an 8 twist dasher and you can shoot the 105gr A Max for long range varmint hunting as the plastic tip makes them explosive. What ever way you go an 8 twist has more versatility being able to shoot up to 107gr Match bullets and also any other hunting bullet you like get your action trued and fit a good quality Benchrest barrel and i reccomend the 8 twist but other will reccomend other twists.

What do you want to shoot with it"" This will determine the Stock shape and weather you want a repeater and also the twist.
