Rem 700 223 tp 222m

ok fellows, some time ago I posed question re a 223 that was not shooting, re chamber sloppy etc. many suggestion as to 223AI 22-204 and 222m

I chose 222m, sent the rifle to Hart in Nescopeck, they check the bbl and said it was ok, - had the action trued, bbl set back crown touched up and chamber to 222m. I purchased 400 r/p new brass and found it to be very consistent +/- .3 for the most part

first loads h4198, 2015, 8208 and h335, --8208 is out, --the other three preformed well, 7/12 primers, Sierra 50bk jump .020 all powders first loads were between 3440 and 3523fps with groups in the .300-.500, factory bbl did well.

conditions were bad, wind 5-15 with partly cloudy after rain shower - lots of boil.

I intend to tweek the loads and see how tight this thing will get, hopefully the weather will be better, however here in Fl this is not the season for that.

222 magnum is the parent case for 204 Ruger.

204 Ruger brass is a LOT cheaper than 222 Magnum headstamped cases.

But not as good - I gave up on the 204 because of the poor quality of brass available for it.

204 Ruger of the Remington variety of brass seems to be the best. Win = split necks on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd firing.

If necks are splitting, then anneal them.

Norma makes 204 brass too. I have necked it up to 22 cal and pushed the shoulder back for 222 magnum with no problems.
