Rem 513

Have a chance to pick up a Rem 513 with 27" barrel and target stock. What reputation does this rifle have for it's price range?

Well,
I have one of those in my gun safe. You may or may not be aware, but they were manufactured back between 1940 - 1968. Mine was given to me when I was 16 years old (1963) and was my first squirrel gun. The value of such a rifle would be strictly based upon it's condition and what I'd want to use it for. I've seen them sold for $100 and then again as high as $400 if you are willing to pay that much. Now a collectors model can go for even more. I SERIOUSLY doubt it is going to set any accuracy records, but again that would depend on how much you are willing to pay for ammunition. Like I said, I have one in my safe and it's fun to bring back the good ole days. But then I also have two Savages that are a couple of years old and a newer Anschutz, that you can out shoot the 513 any days of the week and twice on Sundays without blinking an eye.

That's what I suspected. I shot one on the ROTC rifle team 1953-56. It does bring back memories. Just might get it and see how my 74yo eyes will do with the reciever sights. After all, I am doing it for the enjoyment and the ammo now is much better than we had.

BTW, I forgot to mention that you can actually still gets various parts for those rifles. For the life of me, I can't remember where the outfit is, but if you do a search on the Internet for that rifle, I'm sure you'll find the outfit. Good luck and enjoy that baby. And trust me I can appreciate the comment about the eye sight...I'm ten years behind you but sometimes at the range (and I go weekly) I get eyebounch or out of focus issues when I try too hard looking down those scopes. At least with the 513, it has open sights and don't get any of that age related foolishness.
